DAM

Definition

A DAM (Digital Asset Management) system is a software platform that allows companies to centrally store, manage and share digital files such as images, videos, and documents in an organized and controlled manner.

The most important functions of a DAM system

A DAM acts as a central library for all your digital content.

  1. Storage and organization:
    • Assets are stored with metadata (such as tags, product IDs, licensing information).
    • You can search by keywords, categories, product groups, etc.
  2. Version control:
    • Any changes to a file are saved as a new version.
    • You can view or restore previous versions.
  3. Rights Management:
    • You decide who has access to which files.
    • Useful for collaborating with external agencies or partners.
  4. Automatic formats and optimization:
    • One original image can be automatically converted to multiple formats (web, mobile, print).
    • This saves time and prevents errors.
  5. Integration with other systems:
    • DAM systems can be linked to PIM, CMS, e-commerce platforms such as Magento, and marketing tools.
    • This way, assets are automatically available in the right places.
  6. Workflows and Approval:
    • You can set certain assets to be approved before they are published.

When is a DAM really essential?

  • You have thousands to tens of thousands of products.
  • Each product has multiple visual assets.
  • You work with multiple sales channels and markets.
  • Your team consists of multiple stakeholders (marketing, sales, product management).
  • Your content must be able to be published quickly and error-free.
