Structured data (Schema markup)

Definition

Structured data (schema markup) is code added to a web page to explicitly tell search engines and AI tools what the content means, for example that a given amount is a price, or that a block of text is the answer to a specific question.

Adding meaning to what a human already sees

A visitor reads a page and understands from context what the price, the question and the answer are. A search engine or AI model does that less reliably without explicit markup.

Why this matters for AEO

Structured data makes it more likely an AI tool picks up the correct information in an answer, instead of misreading a page or skipping it altogether.

Practical example

A pricing page gets schema markup that precisely states which amount belongs to which package. An AI tool looking up the price of that package returns the correct amount as a result.
