Customer Data Platform (CDP)
Definition
A Customer Data Platform (CDP) gathers customer data from various sources, such as web shop, CRM, customer portal and email, into one central profile per customer. This gives a fuller picture than when each system keeps its own, separate data.
One customer view from different systems
Without a CDP, customer information sits scattered: order history in the ERP, contact details in the CRM, web shop behavior in a separate analytics tool. A CDP brings those sources together.
Difference from a CRM
A CRM mainly manages contact moments and sales opportunities. A CDP goes broader: it gathers behavior and transactions across all channels into one coherent customer profile.
Practical example
A sales manager sees a customer's latest orders, outstanding invoices, and recent questions in one overview, even though that data comes from three different systems.
