Subscription commerce

Definition

Subscription commerce is a sales model where customers automatically receive and get billed for the same products on a recurring basis, instead of ordering again each time. In B2B, this often involves consumables needed on a regular schedule.

Automatic repetition instead of reordering

Instead of a customer manually repeating the same order each time, a subscription locks in delivery and billing on a fixed cycle, for example monthly.

Difference from simply reordering

Reordering still requires an action from the customer, even if it's simplified. With a subscription, the next delivery happens automatically, unless the customer actively changes or cancels it.

Practical example

A company that needs fixed quantities of consumables every month sets up a subscription. Delivery and invoicing follow automatically, without anyone having to order again each month.
