Composable commerce
Definition
Composable commerce is an approach where a company builds its e-commerce environment from separate, best-in-class components, for example a standalone PIM, a separate payment platform and a separate search engine, instead of taking everything from a single vendor.
Building blocks instead of one package
Where an integrated platform offers all functions as one whole, composable commerce chooses specialized components that you combine yourself via APIs.
More freedom, more management
This approach suits companies with specific requirements per component, but it also requires someone to oversee and maintain the coherence between those separate parts.
Practical example
A company combines a standalone PIM system with its own payment provider and an external search platform, all connected to the web shop via APIs.
